Oaklands Information

Oaklands is an attractive, tree-lined suburb that offers a peaceful retreat while remaining close to some of Johannesburg's most popular cultural and recreational attractions. Known for its spacious homes, quiet streets and established gardens, the suburb provides a relaxed atmosphere that contrasts with the energy of the nearby city centre.

Situated in the Johannesburg region of Gauteng, Oaklands lies just north of Houghton Estate and enjoys an enviable location close to Rosebank, Melrose and Sandton. Visitors can browse the boutiques, galleries and restaurants of Rosebank, explore the bustling Rosebank Art & Craft Market, or spend time at the nearby Johannesburg Zoo, one of the largest zoological parks in South Africa. The leafy grounds of James and Ethel Gray Park are also close by, offering pleasant walking paths and open spaces for picnics and relaxation.

Oaklands developed during Johannesburg's northward expansion in the early to mid-twentieth century, becoming one of the city's sought-after residential suburbs. Its mature trees and well-maintained streets continue to reflect this established character.

Although primarily residential, Oaklands is an excellent base for travellers seeking a quieter stay with easy access to Johannesburg's shopping districts, cultural attractions, parks and business centres, making it an appealing choice for both leisure and business visits.
