The Cuckoo's Nest Guest House is so called because of the beautiful cuckoo birds that frequent the area. There are seven which are endemic to the area (not all seen) especially the Red Chested Cuckoo, (Piet my Vrou) which can be heard calling at all hours in the summer months. The cuckoo never builds its own nest, but lays its eggs in other birds' nests, so that the nest owner can look after the fledgling. Come stay with us, we will look after you. Situated 2km from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on the Thohoyandou road. (R524). It is nearby to shops and three restaurants in town. This bed and breakfast is set on an eight-hectare plot of which two hectares is beautiful tropical garden, the balance of which consists of a bush camp which is home to six nyala. A section of the large grounds contains an orchard of macadamia nut trees, which give off a wonderful aroma, when flowering from August to September. The house has 6 spacious en suite bedrooms, each having panoramic views of the beautiful Soutpansberg mountains. Enjoy a walk in the tranquil gardens and view the feeding of the Nyala at sunset, or spot any of the numerous birds which frequent the region. Closely situated to the Kruger National Park - 130km from the Punda Maria gate or 185km from the Pafuri Gate. Other nearby attractions include the many local wildlife and nature reserves, Mapungubwe National Park, which is a world heritage site and the Ben Lavin just south of Makhado (Louis Trichardt). The Blouberg Nature reserve has one of the largest breeding colonies of the Cape Vulture and is situated 90 km from Makhado (Louis Trichardt).
