Dube Information

Dube is one of Soweto's oldest and most historically significant suburbs, offering visitors a meaningful insight into South Africa's past while showcasing the vibrant spirit of modern township life. Established during the 1940s and named after the renowned educator and statesman John Langalibalele Dube, the suburb has long been associated with education, community leadership and the struggle for equality.

Situated in the Johannesburg region of Gauteng, Dube lies close to many of Soweto's most celebrated attractions. A short drive brings visitors to the iconic Vilakazi Street, the only street in the world to have been home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners, Nelson Mandela and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Here, visitors can tour the Mandela House Museum, enjoy traditional South African cuisine at local restaurants and browse craft markets. The nearby Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum provides a moving account of the 1976 Soweto Uprising, while Orlando Stadium and the Orlando Towers add further sporting and recreational appeal to the area.

Over the decades, Dube has remained a proud residential community that reflects Soweto's resilience and cultural richness. Its blend of historical importance, welcoming atmosphere and easy access to landmark attractions makes it an excellent destination for travellers wishing to experience one of Johannesburg's most inspiring and influential communities.
