Reivilo Information

Reivilo is a small farming town in the North West province, set amid the open grasslands and dry savannah of South Africa’s western interior. Its quiet streets and rural surroundings offer travellers a chance to experience the slower pace of life characteristic of the province’s smaller communities.

Situated roughly 60 kilometres east of Taung, Reivilo serves the surrounding agricultural district, where cattle farming and other livestock activities are important to the local economy. The landscape is broad and sparsely settled, with long stretches of veld providing a strong sense of space and isolation. For visitors travelling between the larger towns of the region, Reivilo makes a pleasant detour for those interested in rural scenery and local life.

The town’s history is closely linked to the development of farming communities in the area, while the wider district has deep connections to Tswana heritage. Travellers can explore the surrounding countryside by car, keeping an eye out for birdlife and enjoying the changing colours of the veld, particularly in the softer light of early morning and late afternoon.

Reivilo is also within reach of several attractions around Taung. The Taung Heritage Site, associated with the famous Taung Child fossil discovered in the area in 1924, is an important stop for anyone interested in palaeontology and human origins. The nearby landscape also offers opportunities to appreciate the natural environment of the region.

Part of the Bophirima Region, Reivilo is best experienced as a peaceful rural stop on a wider North West road trip. Its appeal lies less in formal attractions and more in its open landscapes, agricultural character and authentic country atmosphere.
