Deelfontein Guest Farm, nestled between two high ridges in the heart of the Vredefort Dome World Heritage Site, offers a selection of self catering accommodation options.

Experience peace and quiet in the seclusion of this pristine mountain area only 140km from Johannesburg. The vicinity boasts a unique geology as the largest and oldest meteorite impact structure on earth, an abundance of naturally occurring insect-, bird- and wildlife, and diverse plant communities drawing upon bushveld, highveld and even fynbos biotopes. A range of activities is possible, from hiking, trail running and mountain biking to birdwatching and stargazing.

Accommodation is offered in two self-catering guest houses, a rondavel, and a bush camp. The facilities were developed to minimise ecological impact, extending to aspects such as visual and noise impact and water and energy conservation. To achieve these aims, new roofing structures were greened, a waterless composting toilet system is employed, solar geysers assisted by donkeys provide hot water, and electricity is provided by an off-grid photovoltaic system. Separate seminar facilities are available, comprising a hall and two seminar rooms, ideal for functions and group activities.

Deelfontein is an active livestock farm. Visitors are welcome to make an appointment to view the Nguni cattle, Damara sheep and indigenous goats, a popular highlight especially for children. The accommodation is pet-friendly, and dogs are also permitted on the trails, provided they are properly controlled. Guests are requested to provide suitable drapes to protect bedding and furniture.

Guest Houses

Two farm houses, approximately 300m apart, provide comfortable self-catering accommodation for 14 and 16 persons respectively. The kitchens are equipped with gas stoves, fridge/freezers, crockery, cutlery and pots and pans. The bush camp is also the Deelfontein hikers camp of the Meteorite Trail, a three day overnight hiking trail. Bunk beds with mattresses for 16 persons, electrical lighting, a gas stove , and hot water supplied by two donkeys provide all comforts for those who want to rough it smoothly. Pots and pans and a kettle are provided. After a hot day´s hiking, visitors may cool down in the plunge pool.
